Chicago Square Hamburg Info < 4/6 >

Hamburg Germany This master planning project for the City of Hamburg Germany studies the eastern harbor district, Hafen City, and explores a clustered high rise development of mixed use towers and low scale residential buildings. A former shipping channel now fallen to disuse is reborn as Chicago Square, surrounded by mixed use office/retail buildings with residential towers and marina. To the east of the incoming car and rail lines is a series of high rise office and hotel buildings that surround a large park, scaled to the larger buildings that predominate in this area. Views from these buildings look back across the harbor to the old city and serve as an urban gateway for visitors coming from the South. Remnants of the area’s shipping past are preserved in an historical layering of the territory.
